Smile Makeover with
3D Veneers

Digital Smile Design is a concept we use which focuses on a desire to improve your smile using a very personalized method of fast, comfortable 3D scans, 3D smile design software and 3D CAD CAM printed teeth.

The idea of Smile Design is to use a combination of treatments to enhance your smile, including any combination of the following:

  • Teeth whitening
  • Aesthetic teeth contouring
  • Micro gum surgeries with diode laser
  • Custom made CAD CAM veneers

A Fast & Easy Workflow

Dr Enrique Yuen uses smile design software to allow the manipulation of the position, shape and dimensions of each individual tooth to achieve a totally natural and symmetrical look for your new smile. And perhaps most importantly, this process is done with you so that you can see the design, shape, final look and color shade to be used – ensuring fantastic results in a relatively short period of time.

Clear Communication

Smile Design is an exceptional tool for communication. It allows Dr Yuen and our team to communicate visually during the entire process with the patient. As this process does NOT involve old-fashioned impressions or an external laboratory, this means we have complete control over every phase of treatment, including:

  1. The very first optical scan of the teeth
  2. You will see the entire design phase and be a part of it
  3. You will see the printing of each tooth
  4. Once ready, the new teeth are placed
  5. Any adjustments are made
  6. And finally, the last touch-up and polishing is done

The Personal Touch

Smile Design is the treatment that Dr Yuen is most passionate about, making every tooth personalized to ensure that each smile is as unique as the person who is wearing it. To do this, your facial characteristics are taken in to consideration during the design phase and we listen carefully to your expectations and wishes for your new smile.

Time

At perudental, we take your time very seriously. We know that busy lives and short trips to Lima often dictate that treatments must be complete in a small amount of time. Therefore, we have invested in 3D technology and advanced training to add to your experience at the dentist and make it the minimally invasive as can be, over the shortest period possible while not compromising on quality of care.

Less trips to the dentist, greater comfort and state of the art technology combined with a talented team of professionals means that most treatments are completed in just two or three days, even if that does include full veneers on both the upper and lower side.

Before and after

Before and after

1 Hour ‘Zoom’
Teeth Whitening

We offer two different options for teeth whitening; an at-home, custom made, night whitening kit or an in-office option which takes just one appointment.

‘‘Zoom 3’’ 45 minute whitening

Teeth whitening – or bleaching – is a simple way to lighten teeth quickly and inexpensively without bonding porcelain to the teeth or removing sound tooth structure. Bleaching is safe, unlike some of the abrasive products available over the counter – and makes a huge difference in the beauty of your smile.

We have been doing Zoom Teeth Whitening treatments for almost 10 years and we were the first clinic in Peru to have Zoom lamps so we certainly know the system well and know how to get best results without any side effects. We now have 4 lamps from the very first system to the latest system which is ”Zoom 3, Advanced Power”.

How does it work?

It works very simply! Three, 15 minute sessions are given to the patient and after each session, the special Zoom whitening gel is removed and fresh gel is applied. 45 minutes later, the patient is ready to leave with some basic care instructions for taking care of their new, whiter smile. It’s that simple.
Meanwhile, the at-home night custom made whitening kit consists of a syringe with whitening gel, a professional custom fit tray that fits perfectly over your teeth and also an additional syringe with fluoride for those that feel excessive sensitivity. At our specialist dentist clinic in Lima Peru, we recommend Zoom 3 teeth whitening for fast, effective and lasting results!

Teeth &
Gum Contouring

Many times, contouring is all that is necessary to bring out the beauty of the teeth and the natural smile.

Patients often find that when they smile they reveal too much of their gums or that the gum line around their teeth is not symmetrical with the teeth on one side, mis-matching the teeth on the opposite side. This situation can often be resolved by correcting the position of the gums. Achieved by the use of a laser, this procedure is quick and painless with exceptionally fast healing time.

On the other hand, it may not be the gums but the teeth that need to be contoured. In a very short time, teeth can be contoured to leave you looking years younger and with a much more symmetrical smile. A session of teeth whitening often helps, too.

CEREC 3D CAD/CAM single appointment crowns and bridges

Looks better. Fits better. Lasts longer.

We were the first dental clinic in Lima to start working with breakthrough, cutting-edge CEREC 3D CAD CAM digital dental technology since the end of 2009, and during this time we have been introducing 3D CAD CAM restorations for almost all our daily treatments, having truly great success rates.

Dr Enrique Yuen is extremely passionate about this system and as a perfectionist too, every single tooth must be 100% accurate before he places it in the patient’s mouth. This system is used for single teeth restorations such as crowns and inlays, plus bridges and full mouth reconstructions. It is a very personalized treatment for the patient.

Dr Yuen and our team have more than ten years’ experience with CEREC, giving us valuable hands on experience that no other clinic in Lima has.

Finally, this ground-breaking technology has proven very successful where busy lifestyles and only short trips to Lima dictate that time is of the essence. Fortunately, we can do several restorations in just one day, completing total smile makeovers in only 2 or 3 days.

CEREC 3D CAD/CAM

Advantages of 3D CAD CAM Technology

– CEREC restorations have the same characteristics as normal healthy dental enamel.

– Porcelain, EMax, Enamic, Zirconium and many other different options of materials are available.

– One day, same session treatments with no repeat appointments.

– One appointment crowns, bridges, veneers and restorations.

– Minimally invasive, comfortable, fast and painless.

– Healthy, aesthetic, bio-compatible porcelain with no metals or alloys.

– We take 100% control of the scanning process, the 3D design and then the immediate fabrication of these extremely high precision restorations.

– No temporaries, no second appointments, no gagging impressions, no additional anaesthetic and no more messing about! It’s faster, stronger and easier.

– Very conservative as only the very necessary tooth structure is altered while we prepare it for the new restoration.

Replacement Amalgam Fillings with 3D Restorations

CEREC 3D CAD CAM Replacement Amalgam Fillings

White Fillings, which are also known as composite resins or porcelain inlays, allow teeth to be filled and rebuilt using aesthetically acceptable materials. White Fillings do not contain mercury and are an ideal choice for achieving long term strength in teeth. However, teeth that are heavily filled with large silver amalgam or mercury fillings are at risk of fracturing because the tooth is spread apart by these traditional filling materials.

Teeth can now be rebuilt and strengthened with ceramic inlays which bonds the tooth together as opposed to expanding it, preserving the remaining healthy tooth structure. This allows teeth to be safely and aesthetically restored while also achieving a more attractive smile.

This is what you can expect during the process:

  1. Keeping the fillings cool during the removal process with water and air is very important as this reduces the amount of mercury vapor the filling produces during treatment.
  2. We use a high-volume evacuator (suction system) as we feel this is one of the most important tools in minimizing the patient’s exposure to mercury vapor and amalgam particles.
  3. We use additional air purification. A special air filtering system that’s placed as close to the patient’s mouth as is practical helps the patient breathe as much pure air as possible.
  4. Throughout the process, the fillings and particles are immediately and professionally disposed of.
  5. Finally, we recommend the patient takes a course of vitamins to boost their immune system.

Full Mouth All-on-six
Dental Implants

DENTAL IMPLANTS
‘ALL ON SIX’ PROCEDURE

An all-on-six is the best way to restore an arch of missing teeth using six dental implants and a hybrid, custom made fixed denture. This type of treatment gives the patient strong, durable teeth again, meaning chewing steak, biting apples and enjoying a good belly aching laugh with friends is once again possible.

First Trip to Lima

On this trip, you’ll have the surgical part of treatment completed which includes the removal of any remaining teeth, possible bone graft and tissue regeneration, plus implant placement. Typically, six dental implants are placed if all teeth are missing in an arch. We have great techniques in modern dentistry which allows us to do this treatment during one session so that healing occurs at the same time without the need to go back later and perform additional surgery or take another course of medication.

Treatment happens under sedation so that you are comfortable and relaxed.

Time in Lima? You need to stay for 7 – 10 days so that we can place your dental implants and monitor the initial stages of healing before discharging you.

Second Trip to Lima

After at least 3 months have passed, allowing time for bone to integrate with the dental implants, you return for phase two of treatment. This is where the magic happens and we begin to fabricate the teeth.

It’s a process similar to engineering, with lots of little parts involved and appointments most days of the week for tests and fittings. We’ll also do bite alignment and many adjustments to make sure everything fits perfectly. Then, once the lab, doctors and you are satisfied with everything feeling and looking great, the final touch-ups, polishing and placement happens.

Time in Lima? You must stay for a minimum of 3 weeks to allow for this phase of treatment to be correctly completed.

Digital Dental
Implant Planning

We like to think that if it’s worth doing then it’s worth doing it right, and like everything in life the importance of planning cannot be over emphasized. This is why we use the latest in 3D CT scan imaging for implant planning. These images are ready for evaluation in just two minutes.

This is when a treatment plan suited to your unique requirements takes shape.

During the planning phase, these high definition images in 3D are used to evaluate surrounding supporting tissue, any remaining teeth, bone level, bone density, nerve proximity and to also plan each implant placement, including:

  • Type of dental implant
  • Length of dental implant
  • Width of dental implant
  • Placement area of the implant
  • The angle of implant placement
  • And the final position of teeth which are placed later, on stage two.

During this planning phase with 3D imaging, we will know whether you need complimentary treatments or not. For implant surgeries, this may include any or all of the following:

  • Bone graft
  • Tissue regeneration
  • Plasma
  • Sinus lift
  • 3D printed surgical guide

Single Tooth Digital Implants:
Case Study

Digital Dental Implants in 2018

Now with digital implantology, we could easily see where it was going. More importantly, we could see how it would benefit our patients and our practice, adding 100% precision and predictability to every single procedure.
Digital implantology – it’s about digital, virtual implant planning, knowing exactly how and where the implant is to be placed and the real magic comes when you put everything together to minimize patient trauma and patient visits while still delivering a superb level of care and treatment.

Case Study

John came to us seeking a second opinion after his regular dentist told him that he needs an extraction and bone grafting. Some months later, after that had time to heal, he’d go back for the next phase which was to place the implant (this meant a second operation on the same area). Even more months later, he’d go back yet again to get impressions taken, wait for lab work to be complete and on another appointment some two or three weeks later, get his final crown and finish treatment.

Total treatment time? About twelve months. Wow!
However, John wanted a different solution, a more conservative approach. This is when he decided to visit our clinic.

Before and after

VISIT 1

We take a 3D scan of the mouth in HD and share with John exactly how we can place an implant on the same day that we remove the tooth. With a virtual implant image selected by the computer software, we show him the exact position, size and angle of the implant we are going to place and put this into his 3D image, ensuring perfect implant placement planning.
Seeing this technology in action and being involved in his treatment planning from step one, John decides to move forward with treatment that same day and opts to be comfortable using our expert oral sedation option. Once ready, we remove the tooth and then place the implant in to position as previously planned, adding bone graft material as needed.

VISIT 2

After time is allowed for the implant to integrate with the jaw bone, John then came back for the final stage of implant treatment where we took a very fast, easy and non-invasive digital impression with our 3D CAD CAM scanner. A full ceramic crown (or E.Max or Zirconium) plus a zirconium abutment connection was custom designed and fabricated there and then, on just one short session followed by placement to complete treatment. Total treatment time? Two appointments!!

Orthodontics &
Invisalign

Orthodontics is a dental specialty which aims to prevent, diagnose and treat facial and dental irregularities, such as bad bites due to over crowding, over bite, under bite or improperly positioned teeth.

Braces apply a gentle, constant pressure to your teeth to encourage them to move little by little to bring them in to alignment and make an enormous difference to the overall look of your smile and bite.

Teeth straightening used to take 2 years to complete, but here at our clinic in Lima, Peru we can offer alternatives for orthodontics and teeth alignment. Simple teeth straightening can be completed in just a few short weeks using modern cosmetic techniques.

For more challenging cases, some months with braces may be necessary and for invisible braces that blend with the natural look of your teeth the patient must be aware that these can take some additional time.

Invisalign – A Clear Alternative

Invisible & Comfortable!

Because Invisalign uses comfortable plastic aligners to move teeth, you can continue enjoying your active lifestyle even during treatment and because Invisalign is nearly invisible, most people won’t know you are straightening your teeth unless you tell them.

Step 1

During your initial visit to Dr Yuen, you will be able to decide on the treatment course that suits you best. We will take bite impressions of your teeth and send them to Invisalign for processing.

Step 2

Invisalign uses advanced 3D computer imaging technology to transform your bite impressions in to a series of custom made, clear and removable aligners. You will receive your first set of aligners in just a few weeks.

Step 3

Each Invisalign aligner will be worn day and night for about 2 weeks, removing them only to eat, drink, brush and floss. A typical patient should expect to complete treatment in roughly 1 year.

Step 4

Congratulations! Your treatment is complete when you have finished wearing each aligner in the series and you will have beautiful, aligned teeth just how you always wanted them.
We offer alternative braces for teeth straightening and our specialist orthodontist will decide which system is best for you during a consultation and diagnosis.

Mouthguard for Bruxism (grinding)
& Protective Sports Guards

For people that play contact sports and run the risk of receiving blows to the jaw, a sports guard is an excellent option that gives added protection and can be ready in just two or three days, custom made just for you.

Likewise, people that grind their teeth at night also need a protective tray called a night guard. This is worn during sleep and helps protect the enamel and stability of the teeth and bite.

All trays in our clinic are either custom made by our specialist lab after taking an impression of your teeth or printed by state of the art 3D printing.

The option for 3D printed guards is one of the latest pieces of advanced technology we have added to our series of 3D equipment.

Mercury free holistic
dentristry

A European Commission report by the BIO Intelligence Service (BIOS) recommending the phase-out of dental amalgam and mercury.

It’s about time, and hopefully it would push the United States to quickly follow suit. Currently about half of U.S. dentists are mercury-free, and 77 percent of consumers who are informed that amalgam fillings are mostly mercury would choose a mercury-free alternative and are willing to pay a little more for it.

It’s important to understand that the term “silver filling” is profoundly deceptive, as the composite material contains anywhere from 49 to 54 percent mercury, not silver. The American Dental Association (ADA) has historically covered up this fact, and at one time even declared that removing mercury fillings is unethical — despite the known fact that dental amalgam emits mercury vapor after it is implanted in your mouth, and this mercury is bioaccumulative and endangers your health in many ways.

At our state of the art clinic here in Lima, Peru, we are specialists in the safe removal and replacement of old amalgam fillings. Dr Enrique Yuen is a holistic dentist, using durable full porcelain computer made ‘inlays’ as replacements for amalgams which are far superior to composite materials.

Ceramic inlays preserve healthy tooth structure because unlike amalgam, it does not require the removal of significant amounts of healthy tooth matter. Over the long term, porcelain greatly preserves healthy tooth structure and strengthens teeth, leading to better oral health and less extensive dental work in the future.

Teeth
Extractions

Reasons for Pulling Teeth

Although permanent teeth were meant to last a lifetime, there are a number of reasons why tooth extraction may be needed. A very common reason involves a tooth that is too badly damaged to be repaired, either from trauma or decay.

Other reasons can include:

A crowded mouth: Sometimes dentists pull teeth to prepare the mouth for orthodontics. The goal of orthodontics is to properly align the teeth, which may not be possible if your teeth are too big for your mouth. Likewise, if a tooth cannot break through the gum (erupt) because there is no room for it, we may also recommend pulling it.

Infection: If tooth decay or damage extends to the pulp – which is the centre of the tooth containing nerves and blood vessels – bacteria in the mouth can enter the pulp, leading to infection. Often this can be corrected with root canal therapy but if the infection is so severe that antibiotics or root canal treatment does not cure it, an extraction may be needed to prevent the infection spreading and compromising other teeth.

Periodontal (Gum) Disease: If periodontal disease – an infection of the tissues and bones that surround and support the teeth – have caused teeth to become loose and is at an advanced stage, then it may be necessary to the pull the tooth or teeth.

What to Expect With Teeth Extractions

Before pulling the tooth, we will make you comfortable by giving you sedation and offering a warm fleece blanket. After a short time, we will numb the area where the tooth is to be removed.
Once the tooth has been pulled, blood will often form in the socket which is totally normal. We will pack a gauze pad into this socket and have you gently bite down on it to help that stop. Sometimes we will place a few stitches – usually self-dissolving – to close the gum over the extraction site.

Bone Graft, Tissue
Regeneration & Plasma

The success of a dental implant and its ability to support a new restoration is very much dependent upon how much bone is available in the site where the implant is placed. There are lots of things that affect bone volume including periodontal (gum) disease, trauma and infections, not to mention it is not unusual to open a site in the mouth for implant placement and find out that some of the critical supporting bone is missing, or porous.

However, there is always a solution. We have great techniques available in modern dentistry to replace missing bone. In most cases, we can increase the height, volume and width of jaw bone during the same appointment as implant placement.

We can even use bone grafting techniques to prevent the loss of bone in circumstances where bone would normally be lost – for example, after the extraction of a tooth.

We will have a clear idea of when additional bone will be necessary before starting the placement of a dental implant. Replacing missing bone or adding to existing bone is sometimes essential to the success of a dental implant and the restoration that follows.

Naturally, and whatever the circumstances, we are always well prepared to replace or add to the existing bone as required. This can be done using synthetic bone grafts or even bone block grafts; taking natural bone from other areas of the mouth and placing it where needed.

Finally, Platelet-rich Plasma (PRP) is a new approach to promote tissue regeneration in dental surgeries. PRP derives from the centrifugation of the patient’s own blood which contains growth factors that influence wound healing and tissue repair. Using PRP can help reduce bleeding, enhance soft tissue healing and promote bone regeneration.

This patient requires a sinus lift on both left & right sides due to bone loss where missing teeth were not replaced. You can see where the bone has become arched as it has receded

Sinus Lift

Why Might I Need a Sinus Lift?

– Many people who have lost teeth in their upper jaw without replacing them for many years, particularly the back teeth, will probably not have enough bone for implants to be placed.

– Bone may also have been lost because of periodontal (gum) disease.

– Tooth loss may have led to a loss of bone as well. Once teeth are gone, bone begins to be resorbed (absorbed back into the body). If teeth have been missing for a long time, there is often not enough bone left to place implants.

– The maxillary sinus may be too close to the upper jaw for implants to be placed.
Sinus lifts have become common during the last 15 years as more people get dental implants to replace missing teeth.

How Does it Work?

Our professional sedation will make sure that you are relaxed and very comfortable before we begin. Once we start, our specialist surgeon will make an incision in the gum tissue where your back teeth used to be. This tissue is then raised to expose the bone, and a small oval window is opened in the bone. The sinus membrane is then gently pushed up and away from your jaw.

Following this, bone-graft material is packed into the space where the sinus used to be. The amount of bone used will vary from case to case, but usually several millimetres of bone is added.

Once the bone is in place, the tissue is closed with stitches and treatment finishes.

Periodontics and specialized hygiene treaments

Dra. Andrea Camere and Dr Jung Song are our periodontal specialist and has been with us since 2013. Let’s see what Dra Camere has to say about combatting and controlling periodontal disease:

”For people with periodontal and gum disease, regular deep periodontal cleanings are very important and doing that will help preserve your overall health much better, too. It has been proven that periodontal (gum) disease can affect other areas of health such as diabetes and heart disease.
It can be as simple as attending appointments every 3 – 4 months for a short treatment, which can help to prevent other, much more serious health issues in the future. Attending those regular appointments to control the problem will mean less frequent appointments after a short time.

1. Periodontal Cleanings:

Periodontists are dentistry’s experts in treating periodontal and other gum related diseases and problems. They receive up to three additional years of specialized training in both surgical and non-surgical. Periodontists are also experts in replacing missing teeth with dental implants using bone grafting, gum grafting and other restorative procedures.

2. Root Planing:

This deep cleaning removes and eliminates plaque, food products and calculus build-up in and around the gums leaving them clean and able to recover their optimal health. Scaling: This next phase of treatment involves treating the tooth’s root and removing plaque and debris to allow the ‘pockets’ in the gums to become healthy again.

3. Maintenance:

Patients with periodontal disease must have regular Root Scaling and Planing treatments at least every 3 or 4 months. In most cases, treatment is ongoing and proper care by a specialist is very important. Failing to take the necessary care with periodontal problems will most likely result in tooth loss, gum recession and bone loss over the long term.

Sedation Dentistry

More and more patients choose to take their treatment whilst being under a conscious state of stress free ‘sleepiness’ which we also call conscious sedation.

Sedation dentistry is performed by non-judgmental doctors who provide the safest, most comfortable care that specifically meets your needs.

The sedation dentistry we use is a commonly prescribed sedation medication. These medications have endured rigorous studies to ensure their total safety, still allowing the patient to respond to questions while maintaining a state of almost total relaxation.

We understand that anxiety and nervousness can result in people not taking the essential dental care they need.

With our professional sedation dentistry there is no reason to avoid taking the dental care you need as you can now be totally relaxed in a matter of minutes before you begin treatment.

This gives the patient and the dentist many advantages, including:

1. Anxious or nervous patients quickly become relaxed and calm, often in a matter of minutes

2. Under sedation, several individual sessions can be combined in to just one, to save time and repeat visits to the clinic.

3. Sedation helps the dentist advance quickly with treatments because the patient is more relaxed and cooperative. Therefore, 100% accuracy in treatments can be achieved in less time.

4. The patient is in total comfort, often asleep or dozing during treatment, with a warm fleece blanket over them and soothing music in the background.

5. We have more than 10 years’ experience using conscious sedation methods and can also offer full IV sedation with some of our patients.
